Tmitm's Guide to PowWow
tribal voice Welcome. This site is intended as a beginner's guide to the "chat" program called PowWow. The level of difficulty is hopefully low. Once you've gone through this guide you should be able to handle the basics of the powwow program. I hope you find the guide easy to follow and helpful. If you have comments or suggestions, send me an e-mail (see bottom of page).

It is suggested that while you are looking through this guide, you use the Powwow program at the same time, so you can apply what you learn instantly.

Initial Perspective
PowWow is built around three main windows that give you access to the different abilities of PowWow. First off there's a kind of menu window, called the PowWow Window, that lets you open up the other two windows and several other functions. This menu window also lets you know who else is online, with certain restrictions such as they have to be in the same "community" as you are, or they have to be on your "buddy list".

The second window is the Community Window. Communities are kind of like virtual rooms on the net where you can talk to everybody and anybody. Most communities have been created around a certain subject but discussions inside the rooms can be of various nature. One example is the newusers community that exists to help new users with their questions.

The third window is the Personal Communicator. A more personal window that you can invite people to so that you can talk in private. Very useful if you and some other person want to discuss something that no one else in the community is interested in. Besides that, the Personal Communicator also gives you access to PowWow's voice chat.

Pages in the Guide
My guide is roughly eight pages long and should take roughly twenty minutes to read through. If you'd like to start now with the very first page go to The PowWow Person. If you however are only interested in certain parts of the guide pick the appropriate page from below.

Expansion?
I have started working on an Expanded Guide to PowWow. So far I've covered most of the preferences.
